Shawnee National Forest Rim Rock Trail "Fat Mans Misery" Poster
Designated a National Recreational Trail in 1980 for its natural beauty and historical significance, the Rim Rock Trail is a hidden gem within the 280,000 acre Shawnee National Forest. This moderate 1.7 mile loop explores the summit of a solitary knob once home to a prehistoric Native American stone fort. With breathtaking overlooks of Pounds Hollow and Robinette Creek below, visitors can opt to explore the towering cliff overhangs of the Lower Trail Loop. The steep walled canyon maze and a pioneer era livestock pen, known as Ox-Lot Cave, are two of the highlights in this area. To make it a full day hike, take a short 0.6 mile trek to the Pounds Hollow Recreation Area along the picturesque Pounds Hollow Lake Trail.
