Mantle Rock Nature Preserve Poster
The Mantle Rock Nature Preserve is one of Western Kentucky’s best kept secrets replete with sandstone arches, extraordinary biodiverse habitats, and a rich historical heritage. As the centerpiece of this preserve, the 188 foot long Mantle Rock Arch is the largest natural bridge east of the Mississippi River. More importantly, the preserve is an official stop along the 2,200 mile Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. During the harsh winter of 1838-1839, approximately 1,766 Cherokee spent two weeks camping in the area surrounding Mantle Rock waiting for the Ohio River to thaw. This Nature Conservancy owned property also protects one of the best examples of rare and fragile sandstone glades in all of Kentucky.
