Blue Ridge Parkway Sam Knob Trail Poster
With magnificent mountain vistas and several options for turning this into an all day excursion, the Sam Knob Trail is one of the most dynamic trails in the Pisgah National Forest. Beginning from the Black Balsam Knob Area, this 2.5 mile out and back trail ascends 460 feet to two distinct overlooks of the West Fork of the Pigeon River and Laurel Creek Valley. Devastated by a locomotive fire in the mid 1900’s, the area boasts a regenerated grassy meadow filled with gorgeous wildflower displays each spring and fall. Located just 30 miles north of Brevard, this popular destination can easily be reached by taking a scenic drive along the southern section of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
