DeSoto Falls Basin View Poster
DeSoto Falls is undoubtedly one of the grandest and most famous waterfalls in all of Alabama. Plunging 104 feet into the West Fork Little River with so much force that it created its own canyon, its natural beauty has inspired all who have come across it since the early days of European exploration, into the heart of the American continent. Named for the Spanish conquistador who led an expedition through the area in 1538, DeSoto Falls once housed a hydroelectric dam, bringing electricity to the area for the first time and even became a centerpiece to a planned resort community. With two small lakes to swim, a kayak rental booth and several miles of challenging hiking trails to navigate, this small picnic area is a favorite weekend destination for anyone looking to enjoy a bit of fun in the foothills of Alabama's Lookout Mountain.
