Craggy Gardens Trail Poster
Carving its way through the flower filled gardens of Craggy Flats is the 1.9 mile Craggy Gardens Trail. Home to one of the greatest displays of rhododendron blooms in the Eastern United States, Craggy Gardens high elevation summits are one of the most visited areas of the Blue Ridge Parkway. During fall, these same vistas are shrouded in fog which often part to reveal a tapestry of auburn, gold, and burnt orange covering the heath balds of a rugged mountainscape. Leading all the way to an overlook atop Craggy Knob, visitors will enjoy a panoramic vista of the town of Black Mountain which looks especially beautiful at night. Recognized by the state of North Carolina as a Natural Heritage Area, it is currently being considered for permanent protection by becoming a National Wilderness Area.
