The Picturesque Town Of Nashville IN

The Picturesque Town Of Nashville IN

No, Im not writing about Nashville, Tennessee. Although these two cities share the same name, they couldn’t be any more different. The small artist colony of Nashville, Indiana is considered the gateway to Brown County State Park. You cannot visit one without the other. This idyllic village sits hidden away from the rest of the world. Hidden in the knobs of southern Indiana, it sits nestled between the Hoosier National Forest and Morgan Monroe State Forest. This town is the folk artist hub of the lower midwest. Upon turning down S. Van Buren St. you’re transported to a simpler era in time. Beautifully preserved cedar cottages dot the area with their moss covered roofs. Federal styled stone buildings guard the corners of most intersections. Most of them dating back to the late 1800’s. Bring plenty of cash and clear your schedule for the day because theres lots to do here. If you’re in the mood to shop, there is no shortage of cute knick knack shops and apparel stores selling anything from travel tees, moccasins, and walking sticks. For the collectors in your group, artisan galleries showcase gorgeously handmade goods. Handmade wood furniture, iconic in the region, can be browsed over at Backporch. If pottery if your thing, head over to Spears Gallery. Wooden Wonders sells statues of various wildlife hand carved from fallen trees. On a similar note, Fallen Leaf Bookstore is the type of old school book store that makes you want to linger and look through every book on display. once hunger sets in you’ll have plenty of options to chose from. Brozinni Pizzeria has the best New York style pizza in town. Hobnob Corner serves traditional american fare reminiscent of an old school dinner, nestled inside of an old victorian manor. For those with a sweet tooth, you can’t go wrong with any of the numerous ice cream and fudge shops along the main strip. Wether you’re driving through town or spending the day at one of the many State Parks nearby, make sure to stop into Nashville to experience the charm of the knobs of Southern Indiana.
